The old district of Bastakiya with its narrow lanes and tall windtowers provides a hint of old Dubai. A short walk from Al Fahidi Fort, it is the largest concentration of traditional courtyard houses in Dubai.

The dhow shipyard close to the Intercontinental Hotel on the west side of Abu Dhabi island is well worth visiting. Huge planks of teak are piled high ready to be shaped into the graceful wooden sailing dhows that have changed very little over the centuries.

Nestled among the Hajjar mountains, overlooking a fertile oasis, the 16th century Hatta village provides a fine example of traditional style village architecture. Dating back four hundred years, it consists of two watchtowers, a mosque and houses constructed of stone, mud, reeds and palm tree...

Situated on a 1600 sq. metre site overlooking the Corniche, near the Breakwater in Abu Dhabi, this heritage village is run by Emirates Heritage Club. Here you can journey to the past and experience traditional life in Abu Dhabi before oil revenues altered the landscape, economically and socially.

One of the biggest sacred structures in Dubai, the Jumeirah Mosque is a dominant city landmark. Built in the medieval Fatimid tradition, this large stone structure is a tribute to modern Islamic architecture.

The official residence of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai (1912-1958) and grandfather of the present Ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,The house, which dates from 1896, today houses a rare collection of historic photographs, coins, stamps and documents that record Dubai's history.

The Indian Orthodox Church was founded in the state of Kerala, in India, by St. Thomas the Apostle, around 52 AD. It is one of the ancient Churches of the world.
